If You Love Rose Flowers

The Rose flowers are of numerous varieties, about 70 genera of the rose family. They are cultivated for ornamental purposes, food, flowers and other uses. Although worldwide in distribution, they are most abundant in the north temperate regions.

Rose plants are prickly shrubs, and the flower comes in various colors, including red, pink, yellow and white. The rose flower is grown and appreciated for it beauty and fragrance since ancient times and is today the most popular flower and widely cultivated the world over. Many varieties are grown especially for perfumery purposes, such as the damask rose, while there are others that have applications in medicine. More than 20,000 cultivars are the result of careful hybridization.

The classification of rose flowers is complicated due to the great number of cultivars involved and the abundant artificial hybridization that has taken place. The more popular class of roses are the hybrid perpetuals, or remontant roses. These are large, fragrant double flowers produced in early summer and few flowers in autumn. China roses and Tea roses are old-rose classes from which hybrid tea roses have been derived through hybridization with hybrid perpetual roses. These hybrid tea roses are recurrent blooming and have a variety of color but are less hardy than the hybrid perpetuals.

Roses must be grown in good well drained soil, although different varieties respond differently to the given soil and climate. Warm temperatures are preferred and the plants grow best when not among other plants. The preferred fertilizer is cow manure, though organic fertilizer and composts are also used. Rose flower plants require to be pruned and spraying with insect poisons and fungicides is a must.

If you are fond of rose flowers, but do not enjoy the work of pruning and spraying every spring then you should try some easy care roses, such as the rugosas and hybrid musks, which are much easier and satisfying alternatives. These flowers bloom on old wood, hence no necessity to prune each year in order to generate new branches. Just trim away the branches that clog the inside of the plant occasionally to promote good air circulation. They bloom through spring and summer and are free of black spot, rust and powdery mildew.

Although easily susceptible to disease which raises its ugly head on certain occasions, the rose flower has in recent time become a much more adaptable plant thanks to the many hybrid varieties. Variety of roses flower plants are available, which can be grown as climbers, shrubs, in pots or even as ground cover. The rose finds its place of honour in almost every garden.
